RTU's video message

Dear friends, we hope you are keeping safe and well at this current time. Fr Antony has sent us a video message to show what RTU have been doing to help those most in need during the current crisis. Because of the very tight lockdown in the state of Tamil Nadu, which has one of the highest rates of Coronavirus in India, many people from the lowest castes who are reliant on daily wage 'coolie' labouring work cannot work which means they cannot buy food. Please do watch the video and read the blog we are regularly updating on the website. Since the video was made, RTU have now distributed over 1,000 emergency food parcels.

News for child sponsors

Due to the strict lockdown, RTU has had to send many of the children in their care back to any relatives they have in their native villages, despite the fact that many families will struggle to feed an extra mouth. So RTU staff are providing money and food parcels to the families, and the Children's Village managers and hostel wardens are regularly in touch. Unfortunately, one little girl who is HIV+ has become seriously ill with jaundice so RTU sent an ambulance to her village and she is now being cared for in nearby Batlagundu Hospital. One of the childcare staff is staying with her at the hospital 24/7 to help care for her.

If you would like any information about the children you sponsor, please do This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The ones remaining at RTU are keeping busy, helped by students who have had to return from their college courses.

Thank you

Thank you so much to all of you who sent a donation for Lent and also to those who have helped RTU cope with their emergency relief work over the last few weeks. It is so kind of you given that we are all worried about what the future holds. If you can save what you would normally be spending on eating out, holidays or days trips, and are able to donate, I know that Fr Antony would be enormously grateful. He normally receives funds raised from many churches in the UK and also fundraising events that you organise. You can make a donation here. Thank you.

John's length of the garden challenge for RTU

"I an 82 and I have a compromised immune system due to my radiotherapy treatment for cancer which means I am one of many people who have been advised to observe strict isolation. The only time I am outside is in our communal gardens and so I have decided to walk 5 miles a day to raise much-needed funds to help RTU deal with the consequences of this terrible pandemic. I was taught by Brother James Kimpton (also known as Brother Lionel), founder of RTU, when he was a teacher at St Peter's School in Bournemouth and have been raising money along with many past and current pupils since he left in 1952. Please do help by sponsoring me."

Carmel Kimpton RIP

I am sorry to have to tell you that Carmel Kimpton, Brother James's sister-in-law, has sadly passed away in Chester recently following a short illness. Carmel and Michael Kimpton helped Brother James for many involving many family and friends, and we have them to thank for the large number of you who are still in touch today from the North West, Scotland and further afield. Our thoughts are with the Kimpton family at this time.

Many thanks once again for your compassion and generosity of spirit in everything you do for us and do keep in touch.
